The Ambassador of Canada to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Peter MacArthur, together with the Ambassador of Canada to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Marie-Louise Hannan, jointly hosted a celebration of Canada’s 151st national day on 2 July 2018 at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta. Ambassador MacArthur delivered welcome remarks on how Canada 151 was inspired by the recent G7 Summit in Canada’s Charlevoix region and the key themes of Canada’s G7 Presidency: investing in growth that works for everyone; preparing for jobs of the future; advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment; working together on climate change, oceans and clean energy; and building a more peaceful and secure world. In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Hannan took note of the cooperation between ASEAN and Canada to respond to a range of threats that trancend borders, advancing gender equality and moving forward in the discussions of a possible Free Trade Agreement.

Indonesian Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Yohana Yembise was also present on the stage and delivered her remarks. The event continued with a cake-cutting ceremony with the Ambassadors, Indonesian ministers and representatives of the sponsors. The reception brought together Indonesian and ASEAN leaders, members of parliament, government officials, Indonesian and Canadian business communities and civil society representatives, diplomats, ASEAN officials, and friends of Canada.
