To coincide with its 50th anniversary, Save the Children Indonesia is launching ‘Festival Pahlawan Anak’ (Children Heroes Festival) to be held in Gandaria City, Jakarta, from August 14th to 16th, 2026. This  free and immersive festival serves as a collective call to action for the the public to participate in efforts to fulfill and protect children’s rights, through Save the Children Indonesia.

Indonesia continues to show progress in fulfilling children’s rights, including civil rights, family care, health and nutrition, basic education, and child protection. Despite the national indicators, many challenges remain.

According to the Indonesian Child Profile 2025 published by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, stunting prevalence remains at 19.8%, and 29.8 million children in Indonesia are still experiencing learning delays. In addition, the 4,727 disasters that occurred throughout 2025 increased children’s vulnerability to various risks. Throughout 2025, the Women and Child Protection agency recorded more than 15,300 cases of sexual violence against children and 12,160 cases of physical violence, with 60.1% of these cases occurring at home, a place that is supposed to be the safest place for them.

Since 1976, Save the Children Indonesia has worked across sectors to promote the fulfillment of children’s rights through various programs in health and nutrition, basic education, child protection, resilience building, and disaster preparedness and response. These efforts are supported by various policy advocacy programs, resources, and practices to strengthen child protection system in Indonesia.

Most recently, the organization’s “Stop Pneumonia” campaign from 2019–2022 has increased public demand, prompting the Ministry of Health to include the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) vaccination in basic childhood immunizations. This policy is expected to save 10,000 children under five from death due to pneumonia.

This year, to coincide with Save The Children’s 50 years anniversary, the organization is initiating Festival Pahlawan Anak, to be held from August 13–16, 2026, at Gandaria City, Jakarta. More than just a celebration, this festival is a collaborative movement that invites the community to play a role in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for every child through dialogue, learning, and interactive experiences.

In shaping the festival into a reality, Save the Children Indonesia receives support from various stakeholders, including Maudy Ayunda and Najwa Shihab, and advisors Daniel Rembeth, Dewi Soeharto, Angga Sasongko, Dini Ardi, Gupta Sitorus, Herry Budiazhari Salim, Loemongga Haoemasan, Primo Rizky, and Tom Tandio, who were present at the event launch, July 14th, 2026.

The 50th anniversary of Save the Children Indonesia serves not only as a reflection on the journey that has been traveled but also as a starting point to strengthen our collective movement to safeguard the fulfillment of children’s rights in Indonesia. Through continuously expanding collaboration, including through the Children’s Heroes Festival, Save the Children Indonesia invites more parties to take part in building an ecosystem that truly supports the best interests of every child.
