As part of the 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and Japan, there will be a collaboration exhibition featuring the beauty of Japanese kimono art blended with Indonesian batik art. The exhibition has been organized on the idea of a private working group of traditional cloth and clothing lovers from Indonesia and Japan.

The exhibition will be held from 27 June to 2 July 2018 at the Gallery and Art Stage on the 9th floor of Hankyu Umeda Department Store in Osaka, Japan. The exhibition has received full support from Hankyu Umeda Osaka Department Store, which is providing this space specially for the exhibition.

The main presentation of this exhibition are the collaborative works of Indonesian batik artists and Japanese kimono artists who have produced kimono creations combining the batik motif designs of some Indonesia's leading batik makers. Certain parts of the kimonos are printed by batik artisans from Indonesia, while the other parts are completed by kimono artists from Japan.

The batiks selected for this collaborative work include Apips Batik from Yogyakarta, Canting Wira from Surabaya, Cahyo Batik from Pekalongan, Pakualaman Batik from Yogyakarta and Mangkunagaran Batik from Solo. The process of making a batik takes almost 5 months to complete and then the final finishing touches are added by skilled kimono experts from Japan to create a unique and high value kimono.
