Canada Day celebrated in Jakarta with Cultural Fusion in mind

The Canadian Embassy in Jakarta hosted 152nd Canada Day event on July 1st 2019 at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta. Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Peter MacArthur and Canadian Ambassador to ASEAN, Diedrah Kelly,  welcomed the guests with speech and marked  the opening of Canada Day reception by cutting the celebratory cake together with Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information, Rudiantara and Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti.

During this event, the Embassy launched ‘Batik Kanada’ to symbolize the growing levels of cooperation between Canada and Indonesia. The ‘Batik Kanada’ has a white base color and decorated with maple leaves which is characteristic of Canada. According to MacArthur, this batik also shows the characteristics of the two countries which share diversity. He further added, the efforts to increase billateral cooperation between the two countries, including student exchange, tourism and prevention on social media as a platform to spread terrorism.
