“Environmental Sustainability in the Tourism Industry” gathering and talk show with Jakarta CMO Club and Wyndham Casablanca Jakarta

Jakarta Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Club together with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts hosted the monthly gathering and talk show last 15 January 2020. In the occasion highlighting “Environmental Sustainability in the Tourism Industry” where every step or small action counts. The issue was brought up in response to previous flooding incident in Jakarta and surrounding on the New Year 2020, also concern on how the tourism industry can take part for a better environment in the future.

The session was opened by Hermawan Kartajaya as the Founder and Chairman MarkPlus, Inc. with a discussion on how a company can play the role of being responsible to the environment and gaining revenues at the same time. Whereas commonly found, environmental sustainability initiatives take lots of investment and high budget to start with. Probably this has been the most debated issue for a company to start with such initiatives.

Following the opening, Wyndham Casablanca Jakarta General Manager, Paolo Randone, gave very much details presentation on the corporate initiative plans, examples and progress results on “Wyndham Full Circle”. Full Circle was launched last August 2019, where Wyndham Destinations brings vacations Full Circle, through believe in putting the world on vacation and believe in a world traveled well. With hospitality and responsible tourism at the heart of all people do, it can bring out the best in people and places around the globe.
Own initiative taken by Wyndham Casablanca Jakarta, for example no longer providing individual mineral water in plastic bottles, introducing plant based menu options, participating to larger scale programs such as Earth Hour, Clean Up, Planting Trees program and many others. He also mentioned to ensure the sustainability as a circular economy, all stakeholders must actively engage and commit to the social responsibility strategy and which eventually leads to long-term health and prosperity of business. Starting by inviting employees and guests to participate in some actions, then growing to larger scale of actions by inviting other stakeholders such as communities and partners. These will lead to education and inspiration for others.
