
Nyepi or Day of Silence is the most unique and sacred celebration in Bali. This day is dedicated to connecting oneself with God through prayers and at the same time as a day of self-introspection and reflection.
Commemorating this year’s Balinese Day of Silence which falls on 22 March 2023 at Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali, and immerse in the sights, sounds, and serenity of the Island of the Gods. Nestled in one of Bali’s most exclusive bays, Jimbaran Puri is a place for guests to press pause, relax and form a connection with the tranquil landscape while embracing the silence surrounded by pristine white sands, lofty palms, and sweeping sea views.
Leading to the Nyepi celebration, on 16 March 2023 in-house guests are invited for a sunset cocktail and to meet with Balinese artist, Marmar Herayukti. A prominent artist specializing in the creation of Ogoh-ogoh and the utilization of eco-friendly materials. Marmar will share his knowledge about the sacred rituals of Nyepi and Ogoh-ogoh, a large-scale statue made out of pulp, glue, and bamboo which reflects human’s realization of the power of the universe.
A magnificent Ogoh-ogoh is also displayed at the resort for guests to admire until Nyepi. As with many creative endeavors based on Balinese Hinduism, the creation of Ogoh-ogoh represents spiritual aims inspired by Hindu philosophy in concatenation with Nyepi. From 20-24 March, guests can appreciate Ogoh-ogoh through the paintings by the
resort’s in-house talents, showcased throughout the lobby and Tunjung restaurant.
On the evening before Nyepi, guests are invited to take part in the Pengrupukan Ritual, a ceremony of cleansing and casting out Bhuta Kala, a representation of evil spirit in the Balinese Hindu mythology, by rice throwing and making offerings in hopes of a blessed and peaceful year ahead.
