ARTOTEL Thamrin – Jakarta holds another collaborative exhibition themed ‘Abstract is the New Realism’ creations of three contemporary artists: Donald Saluling, Sandy Tisa, and Fauzi Satyaputra that is open until 7 May 2023 at ARTSPACE.
The exhibition highlights various abstract concepts. In this collaborative exhibition, some paintings adopted from a relationship based on imagination or forms from seen, heard, or experienced. The criteria come from the artist’s perspectives, not imitating or duplicating the natural world.
Donald Saluling explores negative space in a non-representational way with a big role to play. With over 10 years of experience, Donald spontaneously carried-out the creative process reflected in the four displayed paintings. The drawing process on location makes him learn to see and connect for better story-telling.
Fauzi Satyaputra, through his love for art and music, comes up with a painting style inspired by his point of view of what is inside his mind. The man who has traveled the world exhibiting his work in foreign countries combines abstract and surreal styles. The abstract itself represents a connection about what is inside his mind. While the surreal appears as a symbol helping Fauzi conveys a message to the audience.
Sandy Tisa is not really positioning himself in pure abstract art, instead expressing it through a composition of colors, lines, shapes, and textures presented as himself (non-representational / non-object) taken from many moments that are then expressed through visible forms.
