Ennichisai is an annual and traditional Japanese Festival held each year at Blok M Square in South Jakarta. Returning for yet another year from 22nd – 23rd June 2019, a series of events will take place to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Ennichisai, with this year’s “Danketsu” theme, which translates to mean “Unity”.
Ennichisai, also known as Little Tokyo, is the largest cultural festival in Indonesia that attracts 300,000 visitors each year, eager to experience the arts, culture and atmosphere of a traditional Japanese festival. Every year, this festival is enlivened by various performances from both Indonesia and Japan, showcasing culture-related entertainment, including cosplay, music, DJ performances, dance covers, mikoshi, enjuku, and others. One of the most anticipated attractions is the mikoshi (Shinto shrine palanquin) parade, which will be staged several times throughout the festival.
In addition to performances on the stage, hundreds of booths will invite visitors to explore, taste and buy Japanese snacks, food, and drinks. There will also be various booths selling Japanese-related merchandise, such as anime-themed T-shirts, cute accessories and posters.
Held since 2010, Ennichisai is a unique celebration of Japanese culture which has been part of Indonesia for many years. The Blok M neighborhood has long been known as an ancient Japanese area, which serves as a tourist hotspot and entertainment destination in South Jakarta. This year, this anticipated Japanese cultural festival is free, to ensure you and your family can enjoy this festival comfortably.
