In celebrating International Women’s Day, Ascott Waterplace Surabaya presents a women’s empowerment activity titled “Bloom the Inner You”, a Tropical Flower Arrangement Workshop for women to celebrate the strength, confidence, and beauty from within. In this workshop, participants learned to create tropical flowers arrangement using exclusively local flowers grown around Surabaya. The selection of local flowers also carries a message of sustainability while celebrating Indonesia’s biodiversity.
The event is also part of the signature Ascott Soiree that invites guests to get to know East Java’s iconic flowers such as the Tuberose, known for its fragrant aroma and elegant white color, symbolizing purity, elegance, and eternity and is commonly used in sacred traditional Javanese wedding processions. The bouquet arrangement also combined Gerbera, Gomphrena, Anthurium, Dracaena reflexa, and Monstera leaves.
Not only getting to know local flowers, participants also learned about the spiral bouquet arrangement technique, a professional technique that requires precision to form a balanced arrangement. During the session, participants not only practiced the arrangement technique but also received explanations about bouquet composition, flower selection, and the stages of creating an aesthetic arrangement. Although the spiral technique is known to be quite complex for beginners, the resulting arrangements proved satisfying and brought a sense of pride to each participant.
